Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Govt. of India has established ‘MHRD’s Innovation Cell (MIC)’ to systematically foster the culture of Innovation amongst all Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). The primary mandate of MIC is to encourage, inspire and nurture young students by supporting them to work with new ideas and transform them into prototypes while they are informative years.
MIC has envisioned encouraging creation of ‘Institution’s Innovation Council (IICs)’ across selected HEIs. A network of these IICs will be established to promote innovation in the Institution through multitudinous modes leading to an innovation promotion eco-system in the campuses.
Major focus of IIC
- To create a vibrant local innovation ecosystem.
- Start-up supporting Mechanism in HEIs.
- Prepare institute for Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements Framework.
- Establish Function Ecosystem for Scouting Ideas and Pre-incubation of Ideas.
- Develop better Cognitive Ability for Technology Students.
- Institution Innovation councils at institutes are envisioned an instrumental role to drive innovation and startup ecosystem at campus while connecting with ecosystem enablers at the regional and national levels.
- For this, the role of faculty being a member of IIC is very important.
- They play the role of a mentor or guide for young minds in their pursuit of innovation and entrepreneurship and It is equally crucial for mentors to have the adequate and right set of mentoring skills.
Entrepreneurship Development Cell
With the prevailing concept that Entrepreneurs are not only born but can also be identified, trained and created, an Entrepreneurship Development Cell has been developed in the Institute. The cell has been functioning in collaboration with many organizations which among others includes:
- AICTE( Grant-in-aid)
- Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India(EDI), Ahmedabad
- National Entrepreneurship Network(NEN)
- National Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (NSTEDB), New Delhi.
This cell was created with the objective of generating the spirit of “Self Employment” and “Self Reliance “among the youth and also to create awareness among them to choose entrepreneurship as career and create jobs at a breathtaking pace and can move the world of business forward.
National Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (NSTEDB) :-
The National Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (NSTEDB), established in 1982 by the Government of India under the aegis of Department of Science & Technology (DST), is an institutional mechanism to help promote knowledge based and technology driven enterprises. The Board aims to convert “job-seekers” into “job-generators.”
Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDI), Ahmedabad :-
The Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDI), an autonomous body and not-for-profit institution, set up in 1983 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. It is promoted by apex financial institutions, namely the IDBI Bank Ltd., IFCI Ltd., ICICI Ltd. and State Bank of India (SBI) with active support from the Government of Gujarat. The institute is registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 and the Public Trust Act, 1950. A national resource institution committed to promoting entrepreneurship through education, research, training and institution building.
EDC Cell of Acropolis Group of Institutes is formed keeping in mind the following objectives:
- Accelerate Industrial development by increasing the supply of entrepreneurs.
- Enlarging the small and medium enterprise sectors, which offer better potential for employment generation.
- Augmenting the supply of competent entrepreneurs through training.
- Inculcating the spirit of ‘Entrepreneurship’ in youth
Vision:
To foster innovation and an entrepreneurial culture, by providing students, Alumnae and faculty, opportunities to transform their business ideas to reality
Mission:
- To create an ecosystem to incubate and support innovative ideas
- To create entrepreneurship opportunities for students, faculty and Research Scholars
- To nurture the startups by providing them necessary support
- To provide support to commercialize innovative & sustainable ideas.

Function of IIC and EDC
- Promote innovation in the Institution through multitudinous modes leading to an innovation promotion eco-system in the campus.
- To conduct various innovation and entrepreneurship-related activities prescribed by Central MIC in time bound fashion.
- Identify and reward innovations and share success stories.
- Organize periodic workshops/ seminars/ interactions with entrepreneurs, investors, professionals and create a mentor pool for student innovators.
- Network with peers and national entrepreneurship development organizations.
- Create an Institution’s Innovation portal to highlight innovative projects carried out by institution’s faculty and students.
- Organize Hackathons, idea competition, mini-challenges etc. with the involvement of industries
