Job Description

DIRECT HIRE | SENIOR COMMODITY BUYER | DeKalb, IL

Industrial manufacturer is seeking a Senior Commodity Buyer, focusing on Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) procurement. Source and purchase tools, parts, equipment, and supplies, ensuring cost-effective and timely acquisition while maintaining quality standards. This role involves building strong vendor relationships, negotiating contracts, managing inventory levels, and collaborating with internal teams to support operational needs.

  • Anticipate $90K-$110K (+/-), dependent on experience
  • Office Monday - Thursday (8-5 or similar), Remote work on Friday
  • Full suite of benefits, healthcare, 401K, PTO, etc.
  • CPIM certification is a plus (APICS/ASCM)

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Source and procure MRO materials, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery.
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and conditions with suppliers to optimize costs and quality.
  • Monitor and manage inventory levels, coordinating with maintenance teams for replenishment.
  • Create and track purchase orders, resolving discrepancies in shipments, pricing, or quality.
  • Collaborate with operations, engineering, and maintenance teams to align purchasing with business needs.
  • Maintain accurate ERP/MRP data and reconcile supplier invoices.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement corrective actions for defective materials.

Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Operations, or Supply Chain Management.
  • 5+ years of supply chain experience in a manufacturing or assembly environment.
  • Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems (Microsoft Dynamics D365 preferred).
  • Strong negotiation, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
  • APICS CPIM certification is a plus.
