Job Title: Federal Government Relations Consultant

Location: Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area (Onsite)

Duration: 2-Year Contract

Position Overview:
A respected state-affiliated agency is seeking a highly experienced Federal Government Relations Consultant to serve as a strategic liaison in Washington, D.C. The ideal candidate will advocate for state-level environmental and agricultural policy priorities, with a focus on salmon recovery, Puget Sound restoration, wildlife conservation, and voluntary agricultural stewardship programs.

This is a unique opportunity for a well-connected and policy-savvy professional to influence federal decisions that support critical natural resource initiatives. The consultant will be responsible for building federal relationships, shaping legislative and funding strategies, and guiding coordinated advocacy efforts across multiple agencies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the lead representative for state environmental and agricultural priorities at the federal level

  • Develop and execute strategies to increase federal funding and support for conservation programs

  • Monitor federal policy developments and provide timely updates and strategic guidance

  • Coordinate and participate in meetings with members of Congress, federal agency officials, and policy staff

  • Facilitate advocacy efforts, including Congressional letters, multistate initiatives, and agency visits to Washington, D.C.

  • Organize and support federal engagement trips, briefings, and special events

  • Deliver regular reports and participate in strategic planning sessions with state stakeholders

  • Build and maintain relationships with key entities including OMB, CEQ, EPA, NOAA, USDA, USFWS, and others

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in federal government relations, with a strong policy advocacy track record

  • Demonstrated ability to influence federal decision-making in environmental and natural resource domains

  • Established relationships with the Washington State Congressional delegation, Governor’s D.C. office, and relevant federal agencies
  • In-depth understanding of the legislative process and federal appropriations cycle

  • Exceptional communication, organizational, and strategic planning skills

  • Must be based in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with natural resource and environmental issues

  • Direct experience engaging with state-level agencies focused on conservation and restoration

  • Knowledge of relevant Congressional committees and legislative dynamics

  • Experience with multi-agency coordination and stakeholder engagement initiatives

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required (Public Policy, Environmental Science, Law, or related field)

  • Advanced degree preferred
